Fyrespike ‘n I were on an adventure or two,
when a buzzing noise startled, out of the blue,
’twas my Infer– Internal phone letting me know
that work was calling, Gadzooks, ‘tis ever so.
“Pen” said the Director “We’re one person short”
with boggling mind and imagination I fought
‘One Short for what?’ I at last managed to query
“The London Business Course” he sounded weary
“Neville’s had to drop out, his back is twingeing”
I made appropriate noises, (Nev was always wingeing)
“So, will you go?” making an order seem a question
“Ok, Colin” I said sweetly “what a great suggestion”
So there was I soaking up knowledge by numbers
Filling page upon page with corporate future blunders
glancing about at faces staring so hard to concentrate
thought on my poem, Switched On, mayhap a touch of fate?

London was good though, when we finally managed some free time. I begged, stole and borrowed some photo’s from others., as my mobile phone couldn’t capture enough depth and was quite hopeless… ‘cepting this one *from St Pancras… (Promise to self, I must, I must buy a new Camera!!)

Ah what a great poem PLUS great photos Pen! I was wondering where you had off and disappeared to when I didn’t get email notifications of your poems for a while! This makes me even more excited to get to London – although I won’t always be there of course! Glad that you had a good work trip when you eventually got the free time! 🙂

HI there Andini, it was an exciting but busy trip, and most of the time was spent reaching places, rather than enjoying ‘getting there’ type of thing. I;d rather see London as a tourist, spending a couple of weeks just looking around, taking time and absorbing everything I could. BUT ‘twould be very expensive methinks. I share your excitement my lovely friend, you will enjoy Norwich so much I’m sure. It’s a wonderful part of England. xx

The pics are wonderful. One day, hopefully, I will be able to visit England. I’m half English and would love to see where my ancestors came from.

Thanks Beth, the photo’s don’t do London justice, but one day I do hope to be able to stay there a while and ‘do’ the whole tourist bit, searching out all the historical places, and walking in the steps of long ago Londoners. Glad you enjoyed sharing my experience. xx

Subtlety is Colin’s middle name. Raven, he pulls the ‘pity me’ card every time. 😀 , Sir John Fascinates me, it was through his efforts that St Pancras retained it’s look, and we would have lost our connection with the past. Sometimes it’s good to just see a different place, even if it is work. Although once in my previous job I travelled four hours to get down south for 9.30am to attend a meeting, only to find out when I got there that it had been cancelled. At least I had the day off work because it took me another four hours to get back. Great poem once again, Pen! 😀

You have picked their pockets wisely Lady Pen as this selection of photographs are really great and what a wicked time you had too 🙂 Those Business type Buswoman Holidays can be a tad stuffy at times but with Fyrespike by your side it was most certainly a richer experience, and it did take your mind off all that horrible work now didn’t it Lady Pen?
and what a wonderful location for a working creation… I bet it was good to get home though, slip on something comfortable, and lay back with Parker, noooooooo not literally as he was just fetching you cups of tea and offering you those lovely chocolates to savour… I just hope that you have saved me some of the nicer one’s this time Lady Pen or else? 😉 🙂 lol

I think Fyrespike got slightly bored and wandered off Andro, I didn’t catch sight nor sound of him the whole time I was there. Which I suppose was a good thing, him setting fire to the hotel room with his pipe would have been dreadful to live through. … He takes no notice of signs you know? ‘NO smoking’ to him is a slight suggestion. Um… choccies?.. um… Fyrespike ate ’em all you know… he has such a sweet tooth, .. (why has my nose grown larger? Ooo, I can type better with it than my fingers!! 😉 ) xx

It was a fantastic opportunity Robin, (for one Colin owes me a favour now… and for two, um..well I have to think on that!! 😉 ) …. London is somewhere I would love to stay for a month or two and just soak up the atmosphere and history… A lottery win would solve the problem. now fingers tightly crossed xx

Well written dear friend , I liked the pics but agree it pays to have a good cam , I learnt my lesson in Chile as you only get one chance with a shot to put in your memory bank , I have never been to London but would like to visit , the beefeaters and guards always facinate me , maybe its cos of my military background.

I would recommend a long visit Ian, ‘cos there’s so much to see and experience. I must buy a new camera. and I know there are loads of reasonably priced ones on the market but it’s just taking the plunge, money wise. The more I try to save money, the tighter my purse gets.

Your poem is light and fun. Do you suffer from that ability to say “no” when a request is made? I think I have that chronic condition . So, your company has to reach a quota for people attending Business courses? Anyway, I liked the poem and the pictures are awesome, also. had to be worth the trip.

Well, it’s good to be needed, and even a corporate get-away now and then is OK. Love the pictures of a stunning city, Pen. Have to laugh at the phone booths – our local art museum had one on display as a relic of the past. That made me feel old!

seems as if the Red Phone boxes are an instant reminder Monica, and it was a change from the usual day to day routine. but it gave me chance to see the London sights again. xx
