Life Span…

hg66
Three score years
plus ten, the Biblical
lifespan allotted to men.
Tho’ times have changed
some live much longer,
our quest for health
getting stronger,
a cure on the cards
for all that could ail us
with an outside chance
Scientists will avail us all
everlasting life plus more.
We want this, but think on,
are we ready, for sure…?

  5. Definitely something to think about! Life may become everlasting, but, what about the finances? What happens when you run out of money before you run out of life? Hmmm.. Excellent poem!

    • Therein lies the rub, Debbie, for without health and wealth why live longer in pain and penury?.. Quality of life is always a decider… Many thanks for your comment my friend.. xx

  6. Hmmm…

We all seek immortality, but what will happen when it is in our reach?

You can bet the poor won’t have access to it…😦

Besides which, we live on a small planet with finite resources – what will happen when we run out of them???

    Remember Torchwood – Miracle Day???

    Love and hugs!

  8. Lady Pen, sometimes I think it would be really good to live forever; and the at others the very thought terrifies me. Such a strange opposite reaction I find. I’m just happy to keep on coming back time and time again!
Great poem once again, Pen, and have a great Easter weekend!

    • Me too, Sir A, (Now you’ve gone an’ done it… Sir TM? Sir Tom, Sir Merriman?)…😉 … nah… you’ll always be Sir Aquatom… I too am terrified, by the normal fear of death itself… (but it happens to all, so no escaping, just acceptance?) … so if everlasting life was on offer… would I take it, grasp it with both hands?… It’s there within all of us, the wish to live no matter what… ’tis ok when you’re a tender youngster nothing scares you… (well, nearly ) … life is an exciting adventure there for only you…. but later on, we gain a thicker skin… and are aware of pitfalls… Sorry, brain was fired by two coffee’s and my fingers couldn’t stop typing… Glad you enjoyed the subject of this one… and a Happy Easter to you… xPenx

    • I have wondered the same thing Ajit, a continuance, mayhap life on Earth is a learning curve,… leaving us with so many possibilities depending upon what we have gained, knowledge wise … Whomsoever knows what awaits us?… Only one way to find out…🙂 But not yet, no, not yet… xx

  12. We’re probably not ready, Pen. Maybe if we learn better about becoming our best possible potential, then we’ll be ready to live longer…

    • Perhaps so, Kathy, ’tis a subject which will keep on cropping up… as science discovers more and more possibilities… I wonder sometimes whether they should just leave well alone, … who knows what they’re tinkering with… Many thanks for your thoughts on this long lived subject…xx

  13. Thoughtful and thought-provoking, Pen. I just met with a planner on Thursday who gave me the news that according to their actuarial hocus pocus, I’m going to die in 2053. That seems like an awfully long time. I can’t imagine living forever.

    • blimey Robin, 2053?… can I come to your birthday party?😉 … mayhap I’ll be in a robot body by then… still typing away at my li’l poems…wondering about the future and why there’s a power cut in my li’l bubble house on Mars… Forever does seem far, far too long… think of endless days, mayhap the appreciation will diminish to be replaced by boredom?… Shivers!! … A time limit gives us scope methinks.. . Many thanks Robin, for your contribution, you got me thinking again, …. xxx

    Vie En Durée.

    La vie n’est que durée
    Il y a un temps pour…
La vie n’a que trop duré
    J’me jetterai bien

  18. Hello Pen! I’m back and missed your sweet poems!😀
Ah…if we only truly believed that we are but eternal beings of light then we wouldn’t be so afraid of death. If only we could remember the power within us and that we can heal ourselves from anything…and that at times we plan for ourselves ailments so that we may learn a valuable lessons, then we wouldn’t be too afraid🙂
