In
the
wee
small
hours,
on a quest to find sleep
turning this way and that,
even counting surly sheep.
A car alarm sharply sounds
ripping silence from the night
shocking you awake
as sheep scatter in fright.
Suddenly it ceases as if never heard
like a quickly strangled cough
but you’re sure that’s absurd.
Perhaps you’ve gone deaf…
or at last found sleep
or are you still patiently
rounding up your sheep?

Oh no, were the sheep even surly? Perhaps there was at least one that winked at you as it jumped by? Fun poem!

Oh Pen, those Sheep must be in every street bleating away.. You sure it was a car alarm and not the shepherds horn? LOL…
Lovely little poem Pen, and yes those sleepless hours, I know as we toss and turn, not fun…
Love to you .. Have a great weekend ~Sue xx

Strange you should say that Sue, I’m sure I’ve caught sight of a few woolly wanderers outside early morning, and li’l Bo Peep was calling and Li’ Boy Blue was surely blowing his horn… Methinks I was finally in the land of Nod… 🙂 … Love ‘n light my friend, enjoy the sunshine…. xPenx

I certainly can relate to the sleep getting disrupted by sudden sounds. And of course all the sheep scatter with fright from the sound.

I think we all experience that strange inability to sink into the land of Nod, Beth, and those sheep certainly added to the problem rather than settle me down… I was worried they wouldn’t get home safely… 🙂 … hope the suns shining for you this weekend. xPenx

At the moment I’m awake until 3am, then up at 11am.
I have to take pain killers for my joints or I don’t sleep at all!!! 😦

You need, ahem, a dog to walk before bed. (My cure for almost all ills.)

do I Monica? You know quite a few people say the same, but I resist, mainly ‘cos (maybe I’m selfish in this thought) I still haven’t gotten over Bess, and I feel almost as if I’d betray her, sort of thing.. I know that’s probably a stupid way of looking at things, and many would say I’m putting human emotions on a dog, but she wasn’t just that for me… she was a friend and companion, and she helped me over so many dark days…Also, mayhap, I wouldn’t have the right attitude for the replacement doggie, In fact …I’m just plain scared Monica, ‘cos it still hurts like hell… BUT we shall see what the future has in store…
Your cure sounds a wonderful one my friend, xxxx

Dear Pen, Your attitude is perfectly understandable; when and if the time is right, you will know, and the perfect doggie for you will find you. It does ease the hurt so, though.

Oh, dear Pen, that is my Sneffie. He does look so much like Beau – in fact, that is a special wonder and mystery to me, that my two rescue collies look, and in many ways act, so much like the two I lost. When the miracle woman who runs Collie Rescue was describing them to me over the phone, I almost didn’t need a description. I knew what they looked like, what they weighed, etc. But of course they are very much their own special selves.

Today was the first really warm day we’ve had for months; it seems to be making everyone sluggish and sleepy after seeking the sun for the entire day. No one in Montreal will have trouble sleeping tonight. On the other hand, in England, it must still be cold. Good luck with the joints….

I knew that feeling. When I have nights like that, I want to cry and bang my head especially when I have to work 4 hours later or less. Awesome poetry my friend. So how many sheeps jumped over the moon during this particular night? Have a fun weekend my friend.

’tis so true Traveller, the worry of never getting to sleep, thinking on the next day and all that needs your attention, adds to the tension and doesn’t help in your quest for the land of dreams… I lost count my friend, totally, and they wouldn’t do as they were told, some kept jumping twice ….Sigh!! 😉
A fun weekend wish to you and yours … xPenx
