12 of the Clock…

wall clock It’s 12 of the clock,  how do I know?
The ticking sound tells me so. It’s strike
has gone, when I over keyed but I love this
clock and there is no need for striking the
half, the quarter, the hour, for time doesn’t
speed or go any slower, just gently ticks
the seconds away, each and every
single
day…

Ps/ Unless I forget to wind it,  ‘tis not battery operated…I couldn’t get a clock picture which said 12 o’clock, every one is set to ten minutes past ten, …. I think ‘cos it’s aesthetic looking? This one was unusually set and looks like mine. The sound of a tick-tock reminds me of my grandparents home,  and makes me feel calm,  which is handy.  🙂   xx

  2. The mechanism of a tower clock always excited me, in the movies though…I want to see it personally now after reading your poem. Thank you Pen!

  3. Lovely Poem Pen… and yes there is something about the reassurance of the sound of that ticking in the background.. especially in those wee small hours of quiet.. When I get up often to make a drink and we hear the comfort of the ticking of the clock..
You brought back memories of my own Grandparents striking clock a little similar to the one you have shown. and the one we had as children on the wall… I know it broke, and my Dad was a bit of a clock tinkerer… and mended it… then when it could no longer be mended he made a remote controlled Tank out of its working cog parts with wire attached not radio controlled as today.. … He was very clever that way.. And got his invention published in the late 50’s in a Mechanical Magazine… I wish he could have patented it.. As it was one of the first of its kind back then. And I am sure it set others off down the same thought route.. for the Cars attached with wire controls in the 60’s 🙂 Toys came out.. 🙂 Thank you for my trip down memory lane.. 🙂 xoxox

    • I was sleepless this morning Sue, about 4am, and the clock kept me company… Lovely story about your Father, and it’s a shame he missed out patent wise, who knows how things would have changed. Glad you enjoyed my tribute to the beautiful clocks , … ticking away.. . and the memories they stir to life. hugs to you and yours my friend. xPenx

  4. That ticking in the background reminded of visits to my grandparents when I was a boy. Pop would have an afternoon nap in his chair. It was very quiet, except for the tick, tick, tick of the clock and the squeak of my shoes as I crept over to take his pipe form his mouth and sit with my legs crossed pretending to puff on his pipe. Until the silence was broken by Nan – “take that filthy thing out of your mouth!” Funny she never said that to Pop. Tick tick tick.

    • Did your Nan see you doing this, Rod, or was it a ‘sixth sense’ on her part?…. I felt sure my Nan had that talent y’know… 🙂 … I find the ticking (hearing it now behind me) almost therapeutic… maybe that says a lot about me… xx

  5. Yes, I’ve noticed that ten past ten phenomenon when I’ve been looking at clock pictures. It’s as though they are primed, and only allowed to take the photo at that time. Or those times, as there are two ten past tens in a day… hmmm…

    • Y’know lately I’ve been seeing ten past ten on the microwave clock, Sir Aquatom, (mind you, seen 11.11 too) so mayhap I’m not been shown the winning combination of lottery number heh? Damn.. was sure I was being reached by strange forces other than my mind playing silly devils.. 🙂 xx

  6. a beautiful love song to the days when time had a spatial component, a visible interval, like a musical note, and wasn’t just a digital print-out
