The Dragons, they’re flying, breathing death overall
as Dragon Drums cease to hold them in thrall.
Long aeons they sought for an ending to pain
disavowing cruel bondage
of a race they disdain.
The Dragons are flying, seeking return of their gold
’twas plundered with avarice, every piece sold
‘twill serve thee to listen, find every last trace
or has thy heart been transformed
a golden effigy in place.
The Dragons are flying, they come seeking blood
cease beating the Drums, ’twill do thee no good.
Shackles are broken, ’tis vengeance they crave
they come in their thousands,
the human race to enslave
.

Yeah Dragons have had it too hard too often! 🙂
Let’s hope a peaceful arrangement can be made to find peace between dragons and mankind! 🙂
Love and hugs!

I can’t read about dragons without thinking of The dragon riders of Pern” books by Ann McCaffrey (sp?)

I have Anne McCaffrey books in my library, Sybil, ( I call it my library because every room in my home has books galore) The Dragon Riders of Pern helped fuel my imagination and are to blame for my vivid interest in Dragons… Many thanks for dropping by and commenting. x

ah Kate, I’ve read the books and I haven’t dared see what they’ve done to the characters for the TV series…. As usual the content is humungous and I bet some parts have to be cut short or taken out… but my Dragon appreciation has been gained from Anne McCaffrey tales.. amongst others… xx

Great poem, Pen. I wish I could fly with the dragons (rather than be enslaved). Love the disclaimer. lol!

It’s something gained from reading so many science fiction/fantasy books, Lady Jude, and I suppose it was just a matter of time before I started writing about them myself, poem and story wise… Though I have ignored my Fyrespike stories for ages… I bet he’s sharpening his wit as I speak… 🙂 xx

Now I wonder why Dragons so fascinate, those knightly tales of fights
Rescuing Damsels in distress in the dark moonless nights
To me a Dragon is a mystical creature
and I was so sorry I missed this feature
Great poem Pen…. so pleased to have caught the beat of your Dragons Drum..

Pleased am I that you caught the beat Sue, and many thanks for your poetic comment…. Loved it… 🙂 … and it’s so true, I wonder why the fascination is felt by so many… You’d have thought that Dragons would have bad press with so many tales of them snaring poor damsels…(I personally think said damsels could probably take care of themselves.. 😉 … Fyrespike’s nodding, I bet he has a few tales to tell…) Thanks for dropping by my friend, xxx

I am a fan of dragons. Magnificent creature. Beautiful, moving poetry that somehow also relates to real life. How we coexist and take care of nature’s creatures makes a difference.
