The One Ring…

The One Ring

Gaze long at me,
I’m such a precious thing,
lust after me, for I’m a special ring
cast years ago of most purest gold,
nay Aeons ago as stories foretold.
I am that one to bend your mind
In my quest to rule mankind
You are one I enthral
as under my spell
you must fall.

With acknowledgments to JRR Tolkien’s, Lord of The Rings,
and
Gollum. My (accidental) hero, and without whom good would not have triumphed over evil. I think this book, (as I own a copy containing  all  *three volumes) above all is the guiding light to my imagination and story telling.

The Two Towers
The Return of the King

  1. You, my lovely ring,
    Are a beautiful thing,
    A wonder to behold,
    Made of the purest gold,
    In the darkest of night,
    I clutch you tight,
    You are just for me,
    My future, my destiny,
    I’ve fallen under your spell,
But you under mine as well,
    So shine brightly, dear ring,
You are such a special thing,
I can’t keep my eyes off of you,
    You complete me, it’s true,
With you I can’t go wrong,
    And with me you belong.

“The One Ring” has many admirers. I enjoyed the shape and the flow. The poem fits well with Lord of the Rings and Gollum. Thanks for the beautiful poem.

  4. Pen, I love your writing! The words you choose to shape your poems, and then the shapes you use to share them show that you like to spend time writing them; and you always provide something that is an absolute pleasure to read. And you know that I love to feel good! Thank you once again! Oh, and I’ve noticed those little links you provide for more information too! (Not much gets by me, you know! 😉 )

  5. Yes and what wondrously fine story telling
it is too, from someone that writes with a
passion for the written word… You credit a
trio of books for your wicked imagination,
but I think that your artistry was developed
a long time before you read these volumes.
You have a special touch when writing my
great friend and the adventure has only just
begun. Keep offering your delightful stories
and poems, adding a vision of dreams that
awaken and come alive, creating a wonderful
world of thoughts every time, capturing the
happiness of your reader base, and as the magic
of your expressionism oozes awareness, there
    is an enchantment to behold.

    • Why Andro, I’m blushing like mad, and my typing’s gone all funny, ( um..ok I’ll admit to that being as usual!!) .. but I am in all seriousness very touched by your complimentary words. I am just pleased to write and offer up my thoughts, ideas and stories for perusal and hopefully people will want to read them. It’s such a delight to be able to connect with you, and everyone else through this medium called t’nett, and it gives me just as much pleasure to visit your site and the many others who are adding to this writing community called WordPress…(and Blogspot too of course) …. Many thanks my friend, for your wonderful, wonderful comment…xx

  6. Very well done! I loved those movies.

    • Me too, Hook, I did think that they might ruin the storyline, for how could they include all the Magical Characters and Events in only three films? But Peter Jackson managed to get across the mystical and marvellous story to finish up with 3 films which I have and which I can watch whenever I choose, (not many DVD’s are watched time and time again as those 3 are) .. x

  8. A lovely poem inspired by a book I certainly love reading as well (couldn’t get into the Silmarillion though).

    Like

    • Me Neither, Trevor, Silmarillion just didn’t have the same appeal, maybe he was trying out a different writing style and failed, ‘cos it was very hard going… Glad you enjoyed the poem, (not a patch on the original one, but I do try 😀 )

  10. I wonder what Tolkien would think of all the continuing attention and influence of his work? Some things just endure and inspire so far…….

    Like

    • They do Eva, and I wonder too what he’d think, as some works seem full of such magnitude that they influence well after the author has popped his clogs … I know some who poo-poo it as a mere fairy story but it contains a message much deeper and draws one into the whole adventure, seeking for the truth and seeking for the right thing to do no matter what the adversity, seems to me a great message for us living today … xx

  12. …one wonders just who the narrator was of the trilogy; who is this omnipotent scōp and do we follow him or shun the very thought of what it is he is that isn’t what we are. If the shadow has no substance but the lack of light, what, then, does the ring possess that possesses everyone who lays a hand on it? The light has substance, the shadow none; why then does something so nothing as a shadow certainly is become so fascinating to the exclusion of what can plainly be seen under the noonday sun? It seems to me that that trilogy of novels might well be the epitome of both material and spiritual learning apart from what can be found in the Scriptures of all Revealed Religions. So, whether wearing the ring or shunning it, there are those who cannot resist and who cannot shun what is obviously the flash in a pan this world and everything in it is.

    • We read, Once, and the written word (LOTR in this case) brings our imagination springing to life, we enjoy the adventure opening up in front of our eyes, with mystical wonder and the underlying message of hope through adversity., of good and valiant people winning through over the basest of evil … An old message but one which tugs at the very core of our being, for are we not intrinsically good and learn the ways of evil through our inability to cope with life and it’s many trials? and do we not live in hope that we attain levels of inner contentment through our attaining the ability to shun the call of evil intent on colouring our souls black as coal… Um..sorry Once, just pondering aloud really… many thanks for your thought provoking comment. xx

  14. The One Ring

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Thanks as always for the visit and comment Pen! 🙂

Yes: A new toy always raises the spirits and switching to spend mode has been strangely terrifying, but I dood it and now I am planning what I will buy next month! 🙂

Sometimes the seeking is better than the receiving!!! 🙂

The thing about the pharmacy is that they told me my meds were waiting for me – they weren’t – so it is going to cost me another £10 Friday to go get them!

Thankfully my finances are back to normal after last fortnight’s expenditure and this fortnight I’ll have everything I’ll need, so I am very content! 🙂

Hope you have a great weekend hun – the sun here is cracking the pavement!!!

    Love and hugs!

    Prenin.

  17. Dear Pen, Greetings from Hawaii – closet thing I know to paradise on earth (outside of Yellowstone and having collies to pet). I had to see your post and love it. Why am I not surprised – somehow I knew that someday you would write about The Ring? You and Tolkien share a kindred spirit – and again, I don’t say this lightly. Special writing informed by an imagination of great daring and utmost good faith. Tolkien’s spirit salutes you, and so do I.
